Tide snap 2-game skid with win over Shamokin
Hoke reaches 100-yard mark for 5th time

Pottsville snapped its first two-game losing streak since 2003 with a 45-28 victory over longtime rival Shamokin last Friday night in a non-league game at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The win gives the Crimson Tide a 49-18 lead in the all-time series and is the fourth straight victory for Pottsville.

Sophomore running back Jeremy Hoke rushed for 164 yards on 23 carries, his fifth 100-yard rushing effort in seven games. He now has rushed for 901 yards this season. Hoke's 33-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter helped seal the victory for the Tide.

Offensively, the Crimson Tide piled up 534 total yards, a whopping 8.5 per play. Quarterback Nick Schafer also had a big game for the Crimson Tide, completing 8-of-16 passes for 109 yards. Sophomore tight end Patrick Haughney led all receivers with one catch for 49 yards.

The defense limited the Indians to just 239 yards, including only 39 on the ground. Sam Jon and Cody Conway led the defensive effort with 10 tackles apiece.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak, the Tide's first since 2003, when they fell in six straight in coach Kevin Keating's first year back with the program following a three-year stint coaching wide receivers at Lafayette College.

Prior to the Shamokin game, "Breaker Boys: the 1925 Pottsville Maroons and the Stolen NFL Championship" made a presentation to the Veterans Stadium crowd.

Pottsville returns to action this week, hosting Inter-County league rival Daniel Boone (5-2). Currently, Pottsville sits second in the District 11 Class AAA playoff standings, just ahead of backyard rival Blue Mountain. Northwestern Lehigh is ranked first and Allentown Central Catholic holds the fourth spot.
